Even so, organizers are hoping members of the business community—many of whom have been steadfast supporters of an event that last year raised some $48,000 in support of club projects—will come forward to meet this year's challenge.
In past years, the event was produced by COGECO TV but this year, the event will take place completely online, a major change, say organizers, including Rotarian Jenny Greensmith, who is chairing the event.
"We want to give a big thank you to YourTV and we’re so pleased to be planning to continue our long-standing relationship with community television working throughout the year with other local Rotary Clubs to highlight projects and events we individually or collectively work on," said Greensmith.
This year's auction will be promoted through social media campaigns leading up to and during the week of the event on the Online Auction website (sarniarotaryauction.com). Your company name and logo will be displayed along with the picture of the items that are donated.
Greensmith, who has retired from her role as executive director of Pathwaths Health Centre for Children, and Mike Hurry, another Rotarian (and vice chair of the event), are appealing to members of the business community to pitch in with donations of goods and services that can be turned into meaningful support for club projects.
"In recent years generous donations have helped our club to support important community projects, such as Bluewater Health, Pathways Health Centre for Children, The Inn of the Good Shepherd, Sarnia Lambton Community Concerns for the Medically Fragile (Standing Oaks), St. Joseph’s Hospice, Epilepsy Canada, a local Scouting project and an accessible playground in Canatara Park," said Greensmith and Hurry in a letter.
"Funds from this auction, our biggest annual fundraiser, go directly to such areas as children and youth with special needs including the Pathways Therapeutic Pool Capital Campaign, youth skills development, supporting people in need, community healthcare and education - the needs and benefits are substantial."
