Hundreds of hungry watchers of the annual Port Huron to Mackinac race gathered on Saturday morning, July 20 in Point Edward’s Waterfront Park for a feast of pancakes and sausages in one of the area’s most popular fundraising events in support of the club’s community initiatives.
Hundreds of hungry watchers of the annual Port Huron to Mackinac race gathered on Saturday morning, July 20 in Point Edward’s Waterfront Park for a feast of pancakes and sausages in one of the area’s most popular fundraising events in support of the club’s community initiatives.
For more than 35 years, club members have been organizing the event, with dozens of members and friends, including members from other affiliated Rotary clubs in the region, pitching in to set up, cook and serve, and clean up after the 7 a.m to 11 a.m. lines ended.
Over $10,000 in tickets were sold for the breakfast, said organizers. That number, while not a record, is very close to being so.
In a new twist this year, anyone who brought their own cutlery or plate as a way of “going green” was eligible to win a tree, donated by DeGroot’s Nurseries.
Jane Pickard was the winner of the tree.
Next year’s Mackinac Race and Pancake Breakfast will take place on Saturday, July 11, 2020.
