Rotarians coming to Sarnia to learn and celebrate (Sarnia, ON/May 10, 2010) Members of Rotary clubs from across Southwestern Ontario and Central Michigan will be meeting in Sarnia and Point Edward this coming weekend to learn about future service opportunities and to celebrate the successes of their 2009-2010 year.
Close to 300 Rotarians and family members, including representatives from the six clubs in Sarnia-Lambton, will gather for their annual District 6330 conference, from May 13-16, at the Holiday Inn, Point Edward.
This year’s event is being hosted by the Rotary Club of Sarnia, in recognition of having one of its members, Tanya Wolff, serving as district governor. The annually appointed governor is the senior Rotary International representative in the local district, which encompasses 61 clubs in Southwestern Ontario and Central Michigan.
“This is a major, annual event for Rotarians, where we gather to mark our accomplishments and share our enthusiasm for serving others, in our local communities and across the globe,” said Rotary Club of Sarnia President Brian Davidson.
“The weekend program will feature presentations and workshops to help us manage our district and club activities more effectively, and improve our professional and personal skills,” noted District Conference Chair Johnna Johansen, also of Rotary Sarnia. Future service opportunities in Rotary’s primary areas of local and global interest, which include health care, fresh water, literacy, youth development and polio eradication, will also be addressed.
Guest speakers from Canada, the United States, Europe and Africa are scheduled to participate.
The Rotary Club of Sarnia is supported by the activities of close to 80 members, who are local business and organization leaders representing a variety of vocations. Continuing to live by its motto, "Service above Self," Rotary Sarnia maintains an active program, focussing on special needs children, youth leadership development, community betterment, and vocational ethics, as well as international peace, aid and development.
