Rotary Sarnia invites area teens to an Adventure in Citizenship Sarnia, ON/January 23, 2012 – The Rotary Club of Sarnia invites area teens aged 16-18 to apply for an outstanding leadership development opportunity, the “Rotary Adventure in Citizenship” program, taking place in our national capital this spring.
Each year, Rotary Sarnia selects one student applicant from area secondary schools to take an expenses-paid flight from Sarnia to Ottawa to join 220 peers from across Canada for a first-hand introduction to our nation's democratic institutions.
The Rotary Club of Ottawa/National Capital Commission program enables students to meet with federal government elected officials and staff to discuss current issues and events of national interest.
Other organizations involved in presenting the program have included Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Library and Archives Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, House of Commons and Carleton University. Participating students are billeted with the families of Ottawa Rotarians.
The four-day program helps participants to get to know their fellow Canadians from different provinces, different cultures, different languages and different lifestyles – to appreciate the diversity of Canada and the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship.
Previous participants have placed a high value on the experience of meeting their peers from across Canada and of discovering that we Canadians have much more in common than those matters that divide us.
The Rotary Adventure in Citizenship will take place from April 29 - May 2, 2012. To get started, download the program overview (downloadable 147 kb) and application form (downloadable 29 kb). Completed applications and questions should be directed to The Rotary Club of Sarnia (519-490-1066; info@rotarysarnia.org). The application deadline is February 17, 2012.
The Rotary Club of Sarnia is a local organization of more than 70 service-minded business and organization leaders from a variety of vocations.
