Rotary Sarnia commits earthquake relief funds to Haiti Sarnia, ON, CDA/January 14, 2010 - The Rotary Club of Sarnia will use its ongoing partnership with Rayjon Share Care to provide an immediate donation towards disaster relief for the citizens of Haiti, following a devastating earthquake in that island country earlier this week.
Rotary Sarnia President Brian Davidson advised club members that an initial earthquake emergency fund of $3,000 would be provided by the organization directly to Rayjon, which maintains humanitarian aid contacts and associated support networks in Haiti.
Davidson explained that the charity would be asked “to direct our funds where they can best assist the maximum number of victims as expeditiously as possible.”
On behalf of the club members, Davidson offered his "deepest sympathies to all Haitians and Haitian-Canadians for their losses that have been experienced as a result of this catastrophe."
Rayjon, a Sarnia-based charity, is recognized for its ongoing educational and in-country development programs, which are dedicated to improving the quality of life in Haiti and other developing countries.
In recent years, Rotary Sarnia has worked in partnership with the charity to help establish a medical centre in Haiti. Several club members have also taken part in one of Rayjon's humanitarian relief trips to the impoverished island country.
The Rotary Club of Sarnia is supported by the activities of close to 80 members, who are local business and organization leaders that represent a variety of vocations. Continuing to live its motto, "Service above Self," the club maintains an active program, which focuses on special needs children, youth leadership development, community betterment, vocational ethics and international peace and aid.
